"We remember what we sing, and nothing is more important to remember than God’s Word. Music-produced feelings will fade, but God’s living and active Word will continue working in our hearts, renewing our minds, and strengthening our faith”. YES YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU SING! I remember back in junior high and even in high school we would make songs for some things that were hard to remember like the elements in the periodic table and many others. Have you ever asked why all they teach the children in sunday school are songs about Bible stories?? They are made to sing these songs to remind them that there is a savior called Jesus and I can bet you still remember all those "action songs" you learnt when you were little ( that's if you went to sunday school lol).
Isaiah 55 : 1-2.
Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
I love music because it really speaks to me! When I used to listen to secular songs, I would wake up everyday with the lyrics of the song on my mind. I don’t know how but it happens and to be honest with you, those lyrics were not good enough to help me start my day. "It is well with my soul" "I want more of you God " "Guide me oh thou great Jehovah " "Nothing is impossible without God "" Be still and know that I am God "How good it felt when I woke with these lyrics on my mind every morning. It gave me strength and reminded me of the power I have been given by Christ. This is not to boast about how I don’t listen to secular songs or my morning routines but this is to tell you that it is possible to feed yourself with good music though it may seem hard. I have had friends who told me it was impossible to do this but by the grace of God I’m still going strong.
Ephesians 4 :17-18
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
We are told to no longer live our old lives when we receive Christ and yet still most of us have allowed things from our past to take God’s place in our lives. Certain books we read, songs we listen to are all things that shift our attention from God to the world. The only way we can overcome this battle is to feed on good things. Most of us need to lose weight! We have taken in too much junk from the world that we have become obese! Just as people obtain new diet plans and stop doing a lot of things in the name of losing weight we also as Christians need to put aside anything that does not help us grow healthy in Christ.
Hebrews 12: 1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
We need to stop going back to the world. Look, it may not be easy but it is worth it. people would call you weird, but know that God calls you His own. I know it is almost inevitable to go out these days without hearing a secular song at a restaurant, an old song you used to like is playing on the radio in the uber you took, your sibling is busy jamming to these songs in his room and you can’t help it BUT remember, you have been given power to do all things and if you seriously make up your mind to feed yourself with good things , no matter what may come, God will help you along the way.
Now about reading the bible, I hear many people say "I don’t know how to read the Bible"or "I don’t understand the Bible", yes, it may be true but this is all your fault. Why? Because you have been trying to read the Bible like others! You want to understand it like how a friend gets it, you want to read it at this hour because that when people say you should read it. The Bible is ours and we should therefore make good use of it any time and any where we want ! “The perfect time to read your Bible is your time, the best way to read the Bible is your way."I saw this on a website and it really opened my eyes to a lot of things. You don't need to copy how others read the bible, you can do it your way and God loves it when you do it that way. Pick your own time for reading the Bible , use any version that would help you to understand the word and you can also use this method I found from https://onethingalone.com/feast/.
You can also listen to sermons from great men of God who will share the word with you and help you understand them clearly. also before you read the Bible, ask God for understanding and you will be amazed at the beautiful things you would see. Make a conscious effort to read the Bible everyday.Since I use my phone every day, and it is usually the first thing I take when I wake up and the last thing I hold before I sleep, I changed my wallpaper to the a picture which says "no Bible no breakfast , no Bible no bed" just so anytime I take my phone, I would be reminded to read the word( I definitely cant use my phone without seeing my home screen!) . This is my way of being reminded to read the Bible . You can also set your unique reminder and make sure you stick to it . ( mine hasn't been easy but I'm still working on it !)
In part 3 of the Christians diet ( if you haven't read the part 1 please do so ) , I would write a list of preachers you can listen to and also recommend christian artist for you to listen to . Since most people have the excuse of saying they cant find nice gospel songs, I would do well to provide you with worship, praise, R&b and afrobeat gospel artist so you can choose for yourself. We are still on the path of eating right and growing healthy in God. if you have any views on his topic or something you want to share kindly contact me or put it in the comments below. and don't forget ; We are what we eat, and when we feast on the word of God , WE BECOME THE WORD!
